In conversation with Fab Fete Event Planning Boutique on the planning, design and styling of this stunning luxury style shoot at Airship37 event venue Toronto.
The theme of the shoot is so fun. The theme of flight is so fantastical and inspiring for a wedding. How did this theme evolve and how did you carry it through the shoot?
Wedluxe asked us to go with a “travel” theme but we didn’t want to take that too literally. We thought about actual people who travel a lot and we automatically thought of JFK and Jackie O. This wedding shoot was really inspired by Jackie’s style and their modern wedding and style. We used passports as invitations and beautiful Chanel style cut out flowers in other aspects of stationary as Jackie O exudes the Chanel look/feel.
Other than the themes of travel, flight and adventure what other themes were you bringing out in your shoot?
Every detail is so synchronized and stylized to give such a seamless colour palette and design consistency from the stationary to the sweets. How do you achieve this?
A lot of planning! Meetings, communication between members and an eye for style. The vendors we put together are ones we work with a ton so we knew they would be able to fit the style perfectly.
At what stage do you start to bring in the various participants to the process?
It started off with myself (Fab Fete), Social Rose and So Pretty In Print. We worked together to decide on a style and theme and ran from there. At that point we called upon the vendors who we thought would work well for this shoot. They came on board about a month or so prior to the shoot. The theme and style were thought of by The Social Rose and Fab Fete Event Planning Boutique.
What was your favourite part of the whole process?
The day of. It’s hectic but it’s amazing to see your vision come to life so flawlessly.
What can couples take away from this inspiration when planning their own weddings?
Sometimes less is more. Although the florals and décor were opulent, it wasn’t too over the top… It is a very realistic style shoot that can be used for a Toronto wedding. It screamed romance and elegance while still being clean and cultured.
When shooting in a space like Airship37 how do you approach the space and benefit from the its natural attributes?
As wedding planners, myself and Rosanne from Social Rose know all the spacs in the city since we have all done at least 1 event at each of the venues. We loved how it was a blank canvas to work with and we thought it was fitting for a “travel themed” shoot. We contacted them immediately and they were happy to work with us and provide us with their space.
As event planners in a broader sense, what do you see happening in weddings that you find exciting?
More and more couples want “different”. With the internet being so popular, couples are exploring using Pinterest etc. and getting some really cool ideas off of that which they would never have thought of.
How does being involved in style shoots inspire your future events that you plan?
It allows us to work with different vendors and different personalities. It helps us become better professionals and it allows for our creativity to really show through. Sometimes weddings don’t allow for us to be TOO creative as the couples know exactly what they want in terms of colours and style but shoots are like “our own weddings”. We get to create the look, feel and design from start to execution.
How did all the disparate details of the shoot come together so well?
It takes a great group of vendors to make the shoot come to life. It’s important to hire a good group of vendors for any wedding as they are able to work together and bring the couple’s vision to life. Please find the list of talented vendors included in this shoot.
