Hello Inspira photography shares her experience photographing a gorgeous “old-meets-new” wedding style shoot by All That Jazz weddings at Bright Lights event venue Toronto.

How do you shift gears from a wedding day shoot to a styled shoot?

Wedding day and styled shoot day can be quite similar in a way.

During collaborations, all vendors get to contribute their visions and elaborative designs they want to introduce to their clients. For wedding photographers, this become an opportunity to photograph and showcase how these designs can be implemented in real weddings.

You brought out all the texture and details of the setting of Bright Lights venue. An example if this is the vintage shutters in the greenhouse. How did you set the tone with these details?

I love the venue details and I think Bright Lights is such an eclectic venue in midtown Toronto. It has all the “old-meets-new” feels and we’ve all been waiting for this!

I was very excited to hear Jasmine’s ideas when she mentioned about Bright Lights. When I saw the vintage shutters during the walkthrough, I know the reception table will be perfect with it and the shots will have all of the Tommy Bahamas’ feel of a wedding.

You worked creatively with the reflective floor playing with light and shadows. How did you plan for this beautiful detail?

I personally think photography won’t exist without light and shadows. Although our photography style is bright and airy, we’ve always incorporated these shadow shots when we saw the opportunities. And again with Bright Lights, it’s hard to ignore these beautiful light and shadows opportunities that brings out depth from these images.

How did you work with the natural light in the venue so effectively ?

I love finding natural light and positioning the objects in a flattering light. It’s not hard to do this in Bright Lights. There windows on almost sides of the buildings and then big mirrors on the side that does not. I can envision so many beautiful weddings hosted here. And Bright Lights being a go-to wedding venues for city living couples.  🙂

What place do styled shoots have in the industry and what are some of the best outcomes of them from your perspective?

We shot our first few weddings in Vancouver and moved to Toronto on our second year of business. Collaborating with venues and wedding planners back then was one of the ways to show clients that we’ve been to the venues and worked with them/the elements in the venues. Nowadays, Toronto has been blessed by new venues and when Jasmine mentioned about Bright Lights, I was excited to get to work in this venue before we got these wedding inquiries. Being able to work with nooks and crannies of venues definitely help future brides and grooms to get some perspectives of how their weddings could potentially look like and ties in with their vision.

There are some beautiful shots of behind the scenes of the process of the style shoot. What are some of the positive results of documenting this beyond sharing the spotlight with all the participants?

Wedding vendors do not get to be photographed and I would love to do something about that. We don’t get to see our behind the scene/action shots. It’s an opportunity for me to show this perspective and I enjoy hearing the feedbacks when they got the shots back and surprised by them.

It’s a memory for everyone that we got to do this together and truly showcasing the talent and hard work that everyone has poured in.
