Melanie and Peter’s share their love filled Elegant La Maquette Winter Wedding.
What is the story of your gorgeous dress?
I wanted a dress that was sleek, and hugged all my curves. I was drawn to Jenny Yoo dresses because of how beautiful they were. My wedding dress was the second dress I tried on and I instantly fell in love.
You and your husband show up so elegantly, relaxed and joyful in your wedding day portraits. What advice would you give a couple for being photographed on their big day?
Peter and I have known each other for over 15 years and have been together for 10 before we got married. We know each other very well and it definitely showed in our photos. We love to laugh and have a great time and I feel that our photographer captured that perfectly. My advice for other couples getting photographed on their wedding day is to have fun, enjoy the moments, have a photographer you like and know your angles!
What drew you to the venue of la maquette?
I used to walk past La Maquette everyday when I worked in the east end of Toronto and I always thought it was one of the most beautiful spaces in Toronto. I loved the checkerboard floors on the main floor and the glass windows on the second.
Any time I passed by it I always took a sneak peak inside and smiled. When Peter and I were looking for venues I instantly brought it up as a contender and when we went to check it out we knew it was the space for our Winter Wedding.
You chose such a unique, intimate wonderfully located space within the venue to frame your ceremony. What was the process for planning this?
Since we were going to have more than 100 people at the wedding our venue coordinator Brett said that upstairs would be the most ideal. Given that its a unique space we had to figure out how I was going to walk down the aisle. We decided that walking through instead of down an aisle made the most sense. I loved that wherever you were seated you could see Peter and I. Having photos and video footage of friends and family from different areas of the ceremony shows that everyone had a great view.
If you describe what the room felt like on your wedding day how would you describe it?
As I said previously – Peter and I have known each other for a long time and some of our friends have known us since we first met back in 2005. To know that our relationship was built on friendship first and to have our friends witness that is quite special. We had so many people come up to us after the ceremony telling us how touching our vows were to each other. The room was full of love, laughter and joy.
